To learn more about the Knights of Columbus and the St. Michael Council, please visit our website at http://www.kofc8980.org KNIGHTS CORNER The July 2011 Issue of “Columbia”, the monthly newsmagazine of the Knights of Columbus, reports on the charitable activities of the worldwide Knights. Among these are: free prosthetic devices and physical therapy for young people who lost limbs in the devastating Haiti earthquake of 2010; relief efforts in Japan after the tsunami and earthquake; assistance to families following the tornadoes in the South and Midwest; support for Global Wheelchair Mission, Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. The Supreme Knight also announced that charitable giving for the year ending December 2010 increased by more than $3 million (to about $ 150+ million). Volunteer service hours for the same year totaled 70,049,433 – an increase of almost 800,000 hours over 2009. Over the past decade, the Knights of Columbus donated more than $1.4 BILLION to charity and more than 653 million volunteer service hours. The local Council 8980 at St. Michael contributed more than 10,000 volunteer service hours in 2010 and has also supported the new church building fund with a $25,000 contribution in June 2010 as part of our 25th Anniversary Celebration. INVITATION FROM KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The Knights of Columbus Council 8980 will be holding their monthly Rosary on Thursday, October 20th at 7 pm in the church. Following the Rosary, there will be a Social in PAC Hall. The guest speaker will be Paul Kowal from the American Red Cross. The Knights would like to invite all parish groups and parishion-ers to this social. Please plan on joining us so your questions re-garding who can or cannot give blood can be answered and to learn more about the Red Cross and how you’re giving blood can help others. |
