YOUTH MINISTRY UPDATE
Our LIFE TEEN and EDGE groups have been busy for the last two months – and all the events came in quick succession! Here’s an update:
On February 20, Life Teen held its 12th Annual Spaghetti Dinner in the Duffy Center Once again, the event was a success, thanks to the hard work and generosity of many friends and patrons. We have many people to thank for this fundraiser being such a success: “Jimmy” Jimenez, Jane McMichael and Preston’s Restaurant of North Myrtle Beach, Keith Pyle of Sysco Food Services, Marty Meggs of US Food Service, Jon Yarbrough of Nichols Food Service, Lawson George of International Food House, The Olive Garden Restaurant, Phil Pecora of Toffino’s Deli, and Mr. Bob Kochie of Room for Dessert; our parents and friends who provided desserts and helped at the event, Life Teen Core members, our teens, and our wonderful parishioners who support this dinner every year and make it possible for this to be its 12th year!
On the weekend of March 12-14, our Life Teen members and Core team traveled by charter bus – paid for by spaghetti dinner proceeds! - to the Annual Diocesan Youth Conference at the White Oak Conference Center in Winnsboro, SC. We joined about 650 other teens and leaders from all over the state for a weekend of music, keynote speakers, workshops, games, and prayer ministry, centered around the theme, “Legacy.” The highlight of the weekend was Mass celebrated by Bishop Guglielmone, who made his first appearance at this event. We also enjoyed the company of members of the youth ministry program at St. Andrew’s who shared the ride and joined us on the bus!
March 27 and 28 was not only Palm Sunday weekend - it was also a retreat weekend for the EDGE, our middle school youth ministry. Nearly 30 middle schoolers attended. The theme was “Amazing Love” - and the group learned about the three days of the Easter Triduum with talks, music, games, and time for reconciliation.
During Holy Week, while they were on spring break from school, Life Teen members gave up time every morning to practice for the Living Stations of the Cross. This beautiful and moving prayer experience adds so much to our Good Friday every year, Thanks to these teens: Alison Rose, Denise Jimenez, Cassie Cacace, Kiely Clark, Alex Muller, Paul Mack, Joe Suthers, Bryan Dean, Geoffrey Guyette; and to these Life Teen alumni and core members who also participated - Chris Miller, Carrie DuPre, Lauren Nybeck. Thanks to Lexy Edelen and Gary Mocarski, who along with Amanda Vohringer – another Life Teen member – provided the beautiful music. Special thanks to Alex Muller, who also participated in “Reflections from the Cross” on Tuesday evening.
Our LIFE TEEN and EDGE members were present at Mass on Holy Thursday to distribute candles for the procession. The Life Teen Band provided the music for the 11:10 Mass in the Duffy Center on Easter Sunday morning, and Life Teen members also participated in the various Mass ministries as well.
Our last EDGE meeting for the year will be May 16th. Life Teen’s final meeting will be on May 23rd, when we celebrate Senior Recognition night, and the upcoming graduation of our seniors Alex Muller, Alison Rose, Denise Jimenez, and Stephen Schiraldi.
It’s been a busy half a year and we thank everyone for their support and prayers for our youth—they are the future of the Church! Please keep all our young people in your prayers throughout the whole year!

LIFE TEEN YOUTH MINISTRYHe said to them,
“Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Mark 10:14) Life Teen, the program for high school students, helps teens learn more about their Catholic faith and leads them closer to Christ through truth, faith experiences and acceptance. St. Michael is blessed to have a priest, youth minister, music ministry and a core team of volunteers to work with these students in building an environment where they feel loved, accepted and challenged to delve deeper into their faith. Many of our core team members have grown up in the youth ministry programs (Sunday School through
EDGE and into LifeTeen) and have stayed to volunteer their time with todays teens. LifeTeen began in 1985 as a single-parish program in Mesa, Arizona and is currently in more than 1,050 parishes in 22 countries. Come join us at the 5:30 PM Mass on Sunday, our LifeTeen Mass. Here the teens not only engage in the liturgy, but can also serve as greeters, ushers, lectors, musicians, vocalists, altar servers and possibly even Eucharist Ministers. Watching these teens come into relationships with Christ is an awesome and powerful motivator. After all, these teens hold the future of our faith is in their hands. Visit their website at:
