Molly Marie Keegan, 7, has her own brand of determination as she visits residents every week at NHC HealthCare in Garden City Beach. Molly was recently recognized as the youngest volunteer at NHC at its annual volunteer luncheon.
Molly listed her talents as music, dance, art and parties when applying to assist at NHC. Activities coordinator Angela Balcer said the St. Michael Catholic School student began her room-to-room visits by delivering pictures she had drawn in school. She is the daughter of Thomas and Marie Keegan of Surfside Beach.
Thoman Keegan said Molly enhances her talents by taking piano on Mondays, ballet and tap dancing on Fridays. “She’s a busy kid, and we’re very blessed to have her, our only child” said Keegan, a retired police officer.
Each St. Michael’s student must complete at least an hour of community service a week, her fathter said. Some children pick up papers on the beach and some help around the house, but Molly wanted to do something more to touch people.
The volunteer luncheon honored part-time helpers and also gave everyone a chance to see what other volunteers cand do, with groups of them providing the entertainment at the event.
“What joy and glory you bring us,” Administrator Shirley Shadow told the volunteers. “Our NHC partners thank you for the gifts you give our residents and us.”
