About Becoming A Room Parent

The role of the Class Parent at SMCS is to assist the homeroom teachers with holiday parties and various activities throughout the year. A vital part of this includes working on class donations and filling volunteer slots for our two biggest fundraisers, the Harvest Festival and the Spring Auction. Annually, one hour of our familiesÂ’ Fair Share obligation is to be designated to our biggest events. The Class Parent is to assist the event Chairs by contacting parents in their class to fulfill those hours.

Other responsibilities throughout the year could possibly include making phone calls to parents in the grade regarding an unplanned school closing or an emergent event that parents need to be notified of and being an extra set of hands for the teacher during field trips or other activities throughout the year. Teachers may ask the class parent to assist with planning class projects during the year and collecting materials needed.

There are two class parents for each homeroom and they meet with the teachers in September to confirm their specific plans for the year.

The SMCS has, as part of the PTO, an Events Coordinator to act as a liaison between the Class Parents and the PTO. In accordance with our school’s policies, all volunteers must have a copy of their Virtus certification on record in the school office.

For a complete list of classroom parents and contact information, visit the dialog box on the right to download a copy of this year’s volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a class rep for next year, please contact Kathleen McDonnell or Amy Golden. Participating in this way fulfills your Fair Share requirements for the year in which you serve.
