3rd Grade: Summer Assignment

Dear Parents,

The recommended reading will be through bookadventure.com. Your child can pick from their list of over 5,000 books. Please have your child read and complete a test on 3 chapter books from the list at a reading level of 2.5 or higher. When you have completed the tests, go under reports and print out a report on the books you have tested on.  If you do not have internet access, you can use the computers at the public libraries to log on.  All you need to do on this free website is provide a user name and password. Feel free to read and test on as many books as your child would like to. This is a great way to keep your child reading on level.

In addition to the summer reading assignment, your child needs to make a writing journal book of their choice and write 8 entries about their summer or about their faith.  Please date each entry and write at least 5 sentences to an entry.

During the summer, have your child continue reviewing their addition and subtraction facts. Have your child practice adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers. Some other math concepts you should review with your child are place value, telling time and rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. You could have your child study the multiplication facts 0-5 so that your child will be better prepared for our math program. To reinforce these math concepts, you need to go on-line to the website www.sadlier-oxford.com/math/ and fill out the math log.

Bring the reading report, writing journal and math log to school on the first day.  I have a lot of fun and exciting things planned for the new school year. I look forward to having your child in my third grade class in August. Thanks for your hard work in helping your child get prepared for third grade. Have a safe and happy summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Williams
