Rising 4th Graders are expected to read 2 books over the summer. Following is a list of books from which they may choose. They received a copy with their report cards. Additional copies are available from the school office.
The students will illustrate their books on a 6×6 inch quilt square. (A square for each book). The front of the square should include Students’ names, Title of Book, and an illustration showing their favorite part of the book. We will be using the squares to make a class reading quilt.
In addition the students are to write a summary of the books. They should include the Title and Author. Three paragraphs should follow.
The first paragraph should describe the main characters and the setting for the book.
The second paragraph should include the problem in the story.
The third paragraph should include the solution to that problem.
All summaries will be due the first week of school and will count as 2 grades in Reading for the first report card.
