Dear 4th & 5th-Grade Parents and Students,
Salvete, amici Latinae, and welcome to the study of the Latin language! In this course you will be introduced to the beauty of Christian Latin through traditional prayers and hymns, along with a systematic study of Latin grammar and vocabulary. In addition, we will explore the history, geography, and culture of ancient Rome.
Our beginning text for both grades is Latina Christiana. These books are the property of St. Michael’s and may not be written in. In addition to the textbook, each student will need to bring the following supplies to class:
1-inch loose-leaf binder loose-leaf paper 5 dividersEvery other Wednesday, beginning September 5, there will be a short quiz on the vocabulary and grammar learned in the last two weeks, and there will be a comprehensive test every other month. I will always tell students exactly what they need to know for every quiz and test. Students will not usually have written homework, but are expected to review their textbook lesson and notes every day. Students will do best whose parents are involved in this daily review. So, learn along with your child—make a game of it!
I’m confident that the study of Latin wil be a pleasure as well as an exciting challenge for all 4th and 5th-grade students and their families!
