St. Michael students receive Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Award

Garden City, March 17, 2006: Saint Michael Catholic School sixth grade students (standing left to right) Ben Ellerbe, Charlie Sabella, Lori Pimental, and Ryan Murphy were recognized for their winning entry for the ExploraVision Awards sponsored by Toshiba. The students submitted plans for a “Cancer Identification System” consisting of a fifteen page scientific research project about their device. The team received “Honorable Mention” from a total of 4,503 entries submitted by a total of 13,942 students and 897 coaches. Six grade teacher/project coach Kyle Myres (seated left) and sixth grade parent Cynthia Murphy (seated right) helped spearhead the project.

ExploraVision is a international science competition for students of all interest, skill, and ability levels in grades K-12. The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to combine their imaginations with the tools of science to create and explore a vision of a future technology.

St. Michael Catholic School is open to children of any faith in grades Pre-K through eight and serves both Horry and Georgetown counties.

Pre-registration for new school applicants is Monday, April 24 from 9 am – 3 pm.
