Dear Parents and Students,
Miss. Karen and I have been busy getting the classroom ready for our new students. I spoke to most of you when school ended in June, but as a reminder I wanted to touch on a few points. You are welcome to come in and sit with your child in the cafeteria and wait for Miss. Karen and me to come to the cafeteria to pick up your child. Please park your car in the parking lot if you are coming in with your child. You may drop off or come in with your child as early as 7:30 a.m. Miss. Karen and I will come down to pick the children up at 7:40 a.m. The first day of school we will be down at 7:30 a.m. to meet and greet the children. We will head to the classroom around 7:45 a.m. Please do not bring your child to the Pre-K classroom. Some little ones have a problem with separation anxiety at the beginning of school, so we ask you not to accompany us to the classroom. It can sometimes make the separation harder for your child and the other children when you do.
If during the school year you are running late or your child has a doctor’s appointment and you need to take them out of school, you are to come through the front door and either sign your child in or sign them out. There will be a volunteer manning the front desk. You are not to come to the classroom. The volunteer will bring your child to the classroom or will retrieve your child from the classroom for his or her doctor’s appointment.
Please no bookbags! Each child is to have a canvas tote bag to use for correspondence from school to home.
You should have obtained a sleeping mat for your child’s rest time and a small blanket or beach towel to cover your child during rest time. No pillows, toys, or stuffed animals during rest time. We do not have the space and these items can spread germs and head lice. On Friday we will send your child’s blanket or beach towel home for laundering and ask that you return the blanket to school on the following Monday.
Parents send in bulk snack items throughout the school year. We will notify you by a note sent home in your child’s folder requesting what we need. We will take turns so that all parents get a chance to contribute. We ask that you return this item in a timely manner. Some of you will be asked to contribute snack items this week for Pre-K.
All children are to be dressed in the school uniform. No light up shoes and no sandals are allowed. Please refer to the Saint Michael Handbook for uniform regulations. We also ask that you send in a spare set of clothes, underwear, and socks in a sealed Zip-Lock type gallon storage bag. Please print your child’s name in permanent marker on the bag. As the seasons change we will send home the summer change of clothes for a winter change of clothes. Remember on Wednesdays the children will wear church uniforms which consist of white tops and khaki skorts or pants. There will be no mass the first day of school.
Your child may bring his or her lunch or purchase lunch/and or milk in the cafeteria. In order to eat lunch in the cafeteria you would have had to pay for the lunch card during registration for the month of August. You will receive a menu for September’s lunches in the envelopes sent home from the office each week. If you wish to order lunches please mark the appropriate days and send it in with a check addressed to St. Michael School. Be sure to make a copy for yourself to allow you to know which days your child will be buying lunch and/or which days you have decided to send in his or her lunch. If you order milk for your child the milk card is good for 30 containers of milk. The children will receive a snack each day mid-morning prior to lunch.
Pick-Up will be at the side of the school where the church office is located. Pick-Up is promptly at 2:15 p.m. If you will also be picking up other children you will be directed where you will go after your Pre-K student has been picked up. Pre-K will be sharing Pick-Up time with Kindergarten, so we ask parents to please be patient as we will be releasing children at the same time. Please have a card in the driver’s side of the front car window that has your child’s full name printed on it. This will allow us to move the pick-up process along quickly. Be reminded that we may ask for picture identification until we become familiar with you and your car. If you will not be picking up your child, and you will have someone else picking up your child, please make sure they are on your approved Pick-Up list in the office. We will not put your child in a car without being notified by writing of a change in the person who will be picking up your child. If your normal pick-up driver is not able to pick-up and you didn’t send in a written note informing us of the change, you may fax us your permission to have someone else pick up your child. The school fax number is (843)651-6803. Any children who are not picked up at the appropriate Pre-K Pick-Up time will automatically be placed in After School Enrichment and the parents will be billed.
If you plan to have your child stay in After School Enrichment please send us a note telling us what days they will be staying and we will make sure they get to After School Enrichment.
Miss. Karen and I look forward to working with you and your child this school year. If you have any questions or concerns during the school year, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to set up an appointment to speak with you. You may call and leave a message for us at the school office, send a note, or e-mail me. I am not able to take calls during class time, but be assured your message will get to me in a timely fashion. If it is of utmost importance that I return your call before the end of the school day, please inform the office and I will contact you at my earliest convenience.
If you have any questions that I have not addressed, please refer to the Pre-K Handout, or call the office.
Thank you for the gift of your child this school year.
