For those of you not familiar with our school, St. Michael Catholic School believes every student is special and unique. Our school welcomes all faiths and provides a Catholic Community where faith is an integral part of their spiritual and academic lives. A high value is placed on family life and family participation in the educational process and in school activities. Please explore our site to see ways you could share your talents and time with us. Your cooperation and participation is needed and deeply appreciated by our teachers, administration and especially our students.
We have so many exciting things happening this year! St. Michael Catholic School is the receipient of a grant to build a baseball field sponsored by The Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ Youth Diamond Fund. This generous organization will be presenting us with a check for $10,000 on Saturday, September 2, at Coastal Federal Field at 7:05pm. To express our gratitude, please plan on attending Saturday night’s game! Remember to wear your school uniform or school gym shirt and show your school spirit!
Please join me in welcoming Sarah Kelly to our team as our new After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Coordinator. This newly developed program will be like nothing else offered in the area! The program will encourage students of all ages to explore their passions and undiscovered talents. Here’s just a sampling of the activities we are expecting to offer:
Enrichment mini-courses will potentially include:
• Creative Writing
• Foreign Languages
• Bible Study
• Music Prep (pre-k thru 3rd grade)
Also new this year is our Instrumental/Band Instruction for Grades 4 and up, thanks to Chris and Beth Miller who will be spearheading this new program. Please note. If your child is interested in the music program, but is not participating in the after-school program, they are still eligible to participate! A nominal fee will be required. Details to follow.
Thanks to Ed Pott, we have at least five or six computers in every classroom and starting this year, the teachers will have their own email addresses so parents and teachers can communicate easily. Our infrastructure is connected to each classroom, the Library, the Faculty Room and PE Office in Duffy Center. This opens up the opportunity to utilize our Web-site by everyone. A Big Thanks to Ed Pott for a job well-done. Visit “staff bios” page to learn more about Mr. Pott.
Words to live by: “Give and it will be given to you. (Luke 6:38) Like the traveling power of ripples in a lake, one act of kindness initiates a series of peaceful waves in the river of Life.”
In Christ our Lord,
Sr. Roberta Thoen, Principal.
